BALLERINA vs MATER SUSPIRIORUM - Commission

 

              Aquí tenéis el resultado final de un encargo muy especial: esta ilustración en tamaño A3 para mi amigo el escritor horrorista Andrés Abel, con quién he hecho varias colaboraciones en portadas para sus relatos y novelas. A partir de mis intercambios con Andrés he escenificado sus creativas ideas enfrentado a la Ballerina del universo John Wick con la Mater Suspiriorum de la versión 2018 del film Suspiria, ambos personajes en el decorado de la catacumba de éste mismo film remake de la versión de Dario Argento, un universo de oscuro horror que Andrés y yo amamos.

                 Here's the final result of a very special commission: this A3 illustration for my friend, the horror writer Andrés Abel, with whom I've collaborated on several covers for his short stories and novels. Based on our exchanges, I've brought his creative ideas to life by pitting the Ballerina from the John Wick universe against the Mater Suspiriorum from the 2018 version of the film Suspiria. Both characters are set in the catacomb from this same film, a remake of Dario Argento's original—a universe of dark horror that Andrés and I both love.

            Below you can see the work-in-progress of this drawing, from the initial sketch to the final version, created using my usual pencil as final art technique.
