ELS SEGADORS - REAPER WOMAN

We continue with the previews Els Segadors, my participation in the graphic novel IT WAS METAL, the comics adaptation of the last album of the American metal band A Sound of Thunder.

I present here the main character, around which we have created the pages Els Segadors. We have called her Reaper Woman. And this is the origin of the character, created between Marc Gras (script), Diego L. Parada (color) and me:

In Els Segadors there was no place for too many main characters, due to the short story format. But I came up with the idea of focusing the attention on a character, who could lead the reader from one image to another. And since this character was going to be a reaper, I thought it would work very well if I were a woman. A revolutionary woman, a bit like the woman with the naked breast of Delacroix's famous painting "Liberty Leading the People" of 1830. And whose clothes were also in red, and covered with blood and with one or two sickles in her hands. That would highlight a lot, and I also thought it was important that the character was a woman ... maybe because Nina Osegueda is the vocalist of A Sound of Thunder! And here is where I present another of my usual collaborators: the Belgian model Seffy Moon, with whom I have done many illustrations and covers. When I proposed to use her as the basis for our Reaper Woman, she was delighted to participate!

Here you can see Seffy Moon ...

...and the concepts search for our Reaper Woman.

IT WAS METAL - ELS SEGADORS

At last I can announce this to you. It's a job done a few months ago, a collaboration with the American metal band A Sound of Thunder, from Washington DC.

His new album It Was Metal has been funded in a kickstarter campaign that included a graphic novel where a lot of artists have made the comics version of each of the songs. My contribution has been the drawing of the song THE REAPERS / ELS SEGADORS, with a script adapted from the lyrics of the song by my friend Marc Gras. And with the spectacular color by Diego L. Parada.

Soon I will present to you here the images of this first collaboration with A Sound of Thunder
For now, you can see this extensive interview that I have done the A Sound of Thunder and that you will find on its website, in English, Catalan and Spanish, and where I explain my participation in It Was Metal

     https://www.asoundofthunderband.com/home/blog/it-was-metal-artist-spotlight-mike-ratera

And to start the previews, I leave you with this concept colored by Diego, which represents the Reaper Woman, something like the main character of our story Els Segadors set in 1640, in Catalonia.
For the Reaper Woman I was inspired by the Belgian model Seffy Moon, who has been my muse in many covers & illustrations. She has also participated in this work!

KIRBY & ME

I recently joined the KIRBY & ME project, organized from France through this website: http://www.kirbyandme.com/

This is an edition tribute to Jack Kirby, to commemorate the 100 years of the birth of the King of Comics, created by crowdfunding campaign. We have participated more than 150 authors from all over the world.

Here I present my contribution, the remake of a famous cover of Kirby, which made for The Avengers # 4. I have taken my drawing more towards Kirbynian style (he was one of my biggest influences when I was young) and I added a Local element to the background, replacing the New York skyline with the Sagrada Familia of Barcelona ..

The color is made by Diego L. Parada. Here I present all the stages of realization of this drawing, from the black and white to the final color. And you can also see at the end, the original version of the cover.

If you want to follow the final stage of the crowdfunding campaign or participate in it, you can go to this link:

.............................................................................................................................

Recientemente me he unido al proyecto KIRBY & ME, organizado desde Francia través de ésta página web:
   http://www.kirbyandme.com/
